MIRAMAR (CBSMiami) -- Crews rushed a man to the hospital after he slammed into a Miramar home Thursday afternoon.

Miramar Police said the driver tried to avoid slamming into a stopped garbage truck and crashed into the patio wall of a home near 65th Avenue and Miramar Parkway.

Neighbors heard the loud crash and came running.

"I just happened to glance out my window and I see a bunch of debris, then I notice tail lights and I go. It wasn't the trash. It was actually some guy's truck just slamming into the tree," said witness Ms. Jack.

The truck side swiped a tree, smashed into the front porch and rolled over with an 81-year old man behind the wheel. People ran to help, trying to get him out quickly.

"They just proceeded with the knife, started cutting the seat belt and literally dragged him out. He was like limp," said Ms. Jack.

The family is pretty fortunate too.  The truck avoided the main structure of the home, hitting only a wood and plaster patio facade. When the crash happened, no one was in the house.

"It could have been worse. I'm just glad nobody got injured except for the driver," said homeowner Sazkya Mejia.

Police said the driver was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

For people in the area, wrecks are nothing new.  There's a curve and neighbors complain a lot of drivers are traveling too fast.

"They need to put speed bumps after the turn so people can, so the speed can continue to be reduced.  It seems like after the curve, they pick up the speed again like they think it's okay. They treat this like it's 95," said Ms. Jack.
