Evans: If Brady Was Gonna Cheat, 'The Guy is Brilliant'

Interviews-wqam

If Tom Brady was going to cheat, a former teammate in NFL Network's Heath Evans thinks the execution would've been more precise.

"We all have a hard time removing our bias," Evans said on the Marc Hochman Show with Zach Krantz on 560 WQAM. "I played with [Brady] for four years, I saw his greatness everyday for four years. The hard part about this whole thing is, guys, if I was gonna defend Tommy in one way, Tommy doesn't do anything halfway.

"If Tommy was gonna devise a plan to cheat, the guy is brilliant. He would've had every single one of those balls at 0.256 under PSI right where he likes it."

The former NFL fullback pointed out the PSI of the football clearly didn't end up making a difference during the Pats' recent Super Bowl run, but still feels if cheating was done there should be repercussions.

"We already know the inflation of the ball didn't matter," Evans said. "They pumped those suckers up at halftime and the Colts got the brakes beat off them. Tommy went out in the Super Bowl with properly inflated -- to the perfect PSI level -- and beat the best defense the league has probably seen since the Chicago Bears.

"But if rules were broken, every kid listening needs to hear my voice that there always needs to be consequences for rules being broken."

Yet if Brady does end up getting suspended for a chunk of next season, Evans still has "a feeling the Patriots will be just fine."
