Omar Kelly's Grade for Dolphins' Draft: "I Think It's a Solid B"
Not everyone's emphatically high on the Miami Dolphins' draft this year, something the Sun Sentinel's Omar Kelly admitted on the Joe Rose Show this morning.
"I think it's a solid B," Kelly said of grading the Dolphins' 2015 class on WQAM. "Interestingly, I think the pick I was the most critical of was the Jordan Phillips pick. I think part of the reason I was critical of it was because of my bias -- I would of rather they picked the guard, especially Ali Marpet. I would've felt a lot more comfortable with it but I can't knock you for doing BPA (best player available) because I always say I wish the Dolphins would be completely committed to BPA."
Omar coincidentally says he rated Phillips as one of his Top 50 players in the draft. The Dolphins selected him at 47.
"If you put him in the 5-2 package and make him the nose and put him next to Suh and Earl Mitchell and put Wake and OV on the edges I think that's a very good defense," Kelly said. "And if you only play that for 10 to 15 snaps a game, I think you're winning."
The star of the class is expected to be No. 14 overall pick DeVante Parker, a 6-foot-3 receiver out of Louisville.
"No question he should be a big part [of the offense], he should be a guy that you invest tremendously in because he is your first-round pick," Kelly said. "He is the future. He does have a lot of ingredients that the rest of your wide receiving core doesn't have. But do you know what he's lacking? Experience."
