MIAMI (CBSMiami) - A woman was shot and killed early Tuesday morning at an Overtown apartment complex.

Police were sent to the apartment building at 415 NW 9th Street around 1:30 a.m. after receiving a call about a gunshot. When officers arrived they found the body of 48-year old Gretchen Miranda.

Investigators believe Miranda was shot by her girlfriend.

"According to what detectives have learned, this shooting may have been the results of an earlier argument," said Miami police spokeswoman Kenia Fallet.

"The only thing I heard was a shot, 'boom'," said James Charles, who lives next door.  "The police came, 'bam! bam! bam!' on the door. They asked me who was fighting? Was anybody fighting? Then I said, 'No sir. I didn't hear nothing'."

"I come home from work, it's roped off and everything and somebody's dead," said Shakevia Bejar.

A man who told CBS4 that he was Miranda's brother said she was a nice woman who kept to herself.

"My sister is a loner, kept to herself. She don't bother anyone, she don't talk to anyone," said "Paul" who added that his sister was shot in the head, he didn't know why.

"She was good neighbor, a quiet woman. She was well respected, well respected enough for women to start texting me early in the morning (to let me know she died)," said Renita Holmes.

"They're always quiet, never bother anybody so who knows what could have happened," said Bejar. "It's just sad. I don't know her personally but her life is gone."

Neighbors in the apartment complex plan to hold a candle light vigil for Miranda Tuesday night.

Police confirm that the woman's girlfriend is a person of interest in this investigation and have questioned her.
