A short time later, there was a knock at the door of a nearby home.

"A person came to my door and told me my brother got hit," recalled 12-year-old Aniyah Houston.

"He was the one riding on the back of the bike, my grandson," added Alex Houston.

Renard Charistil's family said he was riding on the dirt bike with his friend Justin.

When the crash happened, 12-year-old Renard's grandfather rushed to the scene.

"By the time I got down there they were putting him in the ambulance, but I did say something to him and he opened his eyes," said Houston.

Both boys were rushed to the hospital. Witnesses said the driver of the car stayed on the scene after the crash.

While police continue to investigate the crash to determine exactly what happened, family and friends of the injured boys are by their sides at the hospital.

Friends said Justin's injuries are not as severe as Renard's.

Renard's cousin, Tanielle Evans, said the 8th grader may lose his toes.

"He's in surgery right now. We just hope for the best. The doctors said they're going to do everything they can," said Evans.
