FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) -- Broward Court employees got a different type of training Friday, training for the possibility of an active shooter.
Broward Sheriff's Office (BSO) deputies trained the employees how to handle a situation in which there is an active shooter in the building.
Instructors and participants spent part of the session in a classroom and part doing actual training.

Employees were taught possible escape routes, how to hide or fight and how to help others if possible in the situation, among other things.
They also taught them if they do hide, to do everything they could to barricade themselves with desks, furniture and anything they find.
BSO experts said the training is necessary because employees need to have a plan in place. A plan that could possibly save lives in such a situation.
