MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) —  The search is on for a police impersonator who robbed a man walking home from a Miami barbershop.

The impersonator allegedly told the victim he'd seen him coming out of a drug house.

Miami Police said the incident happened Wednesday night when a car pulled up alongside the man, flashed a badge and told the man to put his hands on a nearby fence.

The fake officer searched the man and took his phone, wallet and money. He then said he had to move his car and took off.

Investigators are searching for the man who may be wearing a police hat and has a gold badge. He was driving a dark blue car.

Police say it is advisable to call 911 if someone suspicious tries to pull you over. They say the dispatcher will send out a marked police car to make sure the stop is legitimate.
