Report: Miami Dolphins Acquire WR Kenny Stills

WQAM

The Miami Dolphins have become the sharks of the NFL's opening Free Agency period.

After signing a couple of Pro Bowlers in defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh Wednesday and tight end Jordan Cameron Thursday, the team acquired receiver Kenny Stills from the New Orleans Saints on Friday afternoon, first reported by Rand Getlin of Yahoo Sports.

In return, the Saints received Miami's third-rounder this year and linebacker Dannell Ellerbe, according to Pro Football Talk. Parting will Ellerbe will save the team nearly $6 million. Days after shipping All-Pro tight end Jimmy Graham to Seattle, the latest Saints purge has experts perplexed.

What are the Dolphins getting in Stills?

He's a lighting-fast receiver on a cost-efficient rookie contract paying him under $700,000 in base salary for each of the next two seasons.

The 22-year-old caught 63 balls for 931 yards (14.8 AVG) in his second year with the Saints last season after getting drafted in the fifth round out of Oklahoma in 2013. According to Pro Football Focus, he was the league's 23rd ranked overall receiver. But his most interesting metric last fall was leading the league in catch rate on balls thrown 20 yards or more.

Having the luxury of Drew Brees launching footballs to him in New Orleans, will Still's success down the field continue in Miami with the improving Ryan Tannehill?
