Florio on Ndamukong Suh: 'It's the Dolphins or the Lions'

Ndamukong Suh, the NFL's premier free agent, is going to be a member of the Miami Dolphins or remain with the Detroit Lions, according to Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio.

"My understanding is it's the Dolphins or the Lions and the other teams are just leverage for whatever package agent Jimmy Sexton ultimately can negotiate with the Dolphins," Florio said on the Joe Rose Show on WQAM Friday morning. "And I've heard $15 million a year is the likely ending point."

Why have the Dolphins honed in the the priciest free agent on the market? Florio thinks part of is about making "that big splash," an area where owner Stephen Ross has failed in the past. Jim Harbaugh declined Miami's overtures, as did Peyton Manning and Jeff Fisher.

"This isn't about football decisions," Florio said. "Bringing Ndamukong Suh to South Florida is that moment where you hold up the jersey -- that Brett Favre moment Mike Tannenbaum had with the Jets in 2008. You make a big splash, you bring in a big name, you hope for the best."

Saturday marks the first day teams are allowed to officially make contact with agents of players who will become unrestricted free agents on March 10, which is also the earliest date contracts can formally be executed.

Suh received Pro Football Focus' third highest grade for a defensive tackle last season. Pairing him with Cameron Wake, the top graded 4-3 defensive end in football, would give the Dolphins a dynamic defensive front with the ability to demolish offensive lines for years to come.
