Is Tyler Johnson the Heat's Next D-League Gem? [Video]

Hassan Whiteside is finally getting some national buzz after a ridiculous month of January. Averaging 13.0 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 3.4 blocks in just 23.6 minutes is an unbelievable feat for a player desperate to get a team to pick up the phone before the season.

Now it appears the Miami Heat have discovered another potential gem out of the NBA Development League in Tyler Johnson, a 22-year-old guard out of Fresno State.

With Dwyane Wade out indefinitely after injuring his hamstring against Milwaukee last Tuesday, the six-foot-four Johnson is making the most of his second opportunity with the Heat, tallying 13 points, nine rebounds, four assists, two steals and two blocks in a win against the Celtics on Sunday.

After being recalled from the Sioux Falls Skyforce last week on his second 10-day contract, his deal expires this weekend. Miami will then have the option of releasing his rights or signing him for the remainder of the season. With his energy and playmaking the last two games, he's making the team's decision a no-brainer.

Check out his dynamic performance against Boston below.
