Police Searching For Teen Who Disappeared From Mom's Car

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The search was on Friday for a teenager who hasn't been seen since Thursday.

Matthew Tomescu, 14, was last seen in the area of Southwest 56th Avenue and 67th Avenue in Miami.

Miami-Dade Schools Police reported the teenager was a car with his mother leaving South Miami Middle School when his mom stopped to pick up her other son at South Miami K-8 School.

When the teenager's mother returned to the car, he was gone, she said.

"The car was still running, the keys inside, the doors closed and he was gone," said  Jeanie Tomescu, the boy's mother. "We've been giving fliers to all the business all the McDonald's, gas stations, supermarkets everywhere we can go."

Police believe Matthew left on his own.

Tomescu is 6 feet 1 inch tall, 230 pounds with blonde hair and hazel eyes.

On Friday night, Tomescu's family searched the area near Bird Road and the Palmetto Express Way.

Police said cell towers pinged him in the area.

He was last seen wearing a green shirt, a long sleeve gray hoodie with a South Miami Cobras logo, beige cargo pants and Adidas shoes.

Officials said he needs medications and they are concerned for his safety.
