Woman Charged In Wrong Way Crash On I-95

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - An arrest has been made six months after a deadly wrong way crash on I-95 in which a motorcyclist was killed.

Clarissa Vargas, 20, is facing several charges including DUI Manslaughter and Vehicular Homicide.

The accident happened July 19th. Investigators said Vargas was heading north in the southbound lanes of I-95 near the Dolphin Expressway when she slammed into a motorcycle driven by 41-year old Norman Mello. On impact, Mello went through the windshield of Vargas' car and was pinned in the back seat of her car. He died on the scene.

Vargas suffered serious injuries in the crash.

Carlos Pereira, 61, who was driving a Dodge Ram in the same lane as Vargas, but heading south, spotted Vargas' car and swerved to try to avoid a head-on-collision.

Pereira ended up getting sideswiped on the left side by Vargas' car. Pereira suffered minor injuries in the crash.
