MIAMI (CBSMiami) - A South Florida man convicted of killing an associate-turned-government witness and then burning his body is headed to prison for life.

U. S. District Judge Cecilia Altonaga imposed the maximum sentence on Wednesday in Miami.

Prosecutors say 26-year-old Andres Campo killed Erik Comesana in May 2011. The victim was planning to plead guilty to gun-trafficking charges and had cut a deal to testify against Campo and his illegal weapons business.
