TAMARAC (CBSMiami) – A Tamarac's restaurant bill for $268.57 plus a $53 dollar tip is now paid in full.

It only took a month, a police investigation, and some pretty compelling surveillance video of a group of people, gathered for a birthday dinner, dining and dashing.

The group stiffed the Cheddars Restaurant on Commercial Blvd with the bill but after releasing surveillance video of the dine and dash, information was then delivered to police.

"Thanks to all of the people, who saw the video, we were able to get a hold of all of them and what happened is they came forward. Some of the family members came forward and were able to pay the bill," said the restaurant's service manager Raul Miranda.

"Yeah, it got a lot of attention. I didn't know it would be that much of a deal. I've been getting a lot of support from people," said waiter Miguel Flores.

Flores was the dine and dash group's waiter who said he is just glad the bill was paid. He got the tip he worked hard for and hopes a lesson was learned.

"Hopefully they learned their lesson and hopefully others learn and don't try it because it's not good, and it happens all the time," said Flores.

As a matter of fact, the manager said just last week a couple also walked out on their bill. The woman was even seen waving and speaking with employees while heading out the door.

"Yeah. It's a shame but maybe they just haven't seen the news yet," said Miranda.

Although they would've pressed charges the restaurant decided to call it even since the bill is paid.

Broward Sheriff's Office points out the bill was just shy of the cut off for felony grand theft charges and they want people to know they do not take this type of crime lightly.
