DAVIE (CBSMiami/AP) — The Miami Dolphins practiced without their coach on the Thursday and Friday before their shellacking of the San Diego Chargers.

The absence of Dolphins coach Joe Philbin didn't seem to have any effect on the team as his assistant coaches and coordinators did a great job keeping the team focused and prepared.

Now those coaches will have to take charge of Dolphins practice for a couple days this week too.

Philbin said on Monday that he'll miss practice Tuesday and Wednesday to attend his father's funeral.

Philbin missed two days of practice last week to be with his father, Paul, who died Friday at age 93 in Massachusetts. The coach was on the sideline for Sunday's 37-0 victory over San Diego.

Following the Dolphins win, Philbin was presented with the game ball by owner Stephen Ross in the locker room.

Philbin then gave the team a victory speech, during which one of the Dolphins players told Phibin that the win was for him, a statement that was met by a large round of applause.

At the end of his speech, Philbin pointed the ball towards the sky and said, "This is for you, dad."  He told the team that he would be taking the ball back to his family, and that "somebody was watching up there and somebody's having a hell of a time."

The Dolphins (5-3) have won three games in a row and play Sunday at Detroit (6-2).
