MIAMI (CBSMiami/NSF) -- Governor Rick Scott and and the man who wants to unseat him, Charlie Crist, both have some high profile political backing this weekend in Florida.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, the chairman of the Republican Governors Association, is headed back to Florida to campaign alongside Gov. Rick Scott.

Christie is slated to appear with Scott on Sunday afternoon in Plantation and Boca Raton, the Scott campaign announced Thursday.

Christie, who is frequently mentioned as a possible 2016 presidential candidate, also helped campaign last week in St. Lucie and Indian River counties and appeared earlier in Northwest Florida and South Florida.

The Republican Governors Association has sent at least $16 million to the "Let's Get to Work" political committee, which plays a key role in Scott's campaign, according to finance information on committee and state websites.

Meantime, former President Bill Clinton will visit Tampa on Sunday to campaign for Democratic candidate Charlie Crist.

It's less than two weeks before Election Day and polling shows Crist and Scott are locked in a virtual tie.
