CBS4 Morning Team's Favorite Places: Kennedy Park

MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- South Florida is home to many iconic and interesting places including restaurants, parks and hotels.

However, there are some that stand out from the rest while some others you may never have heard of.

That's where the CBS4 Morning Team comes in.

CBS4's Walter Makaula, Rhiannon Ally, Lissette Gonzalez and Vanessa Borge each went out in search of their favorite place in South Florida.

This week, CBS4 Traffic Reporter Vanessa Borge decided her favorite place in South Florida is a park with some of the best views of the water and some refreshing treats.

It's Kennedy Park in Coconut Grove where visitors can work out on the outdoor gym or play on the sand volleyball court.

But there's one delicious spot that sets Kennedy Park apart from all the others.

"After high school, I would head to Kennedy with my best friend Sofia and go straight to A.C.'s Icees. You can't miss his truck or his long white beard," said Vanessa.

A.C. is famous for his frozen lemonade icee. He makes them fresh every morning. A.C.'s has been refreshing park visitors for over 30 years.

"I'm on a whole 'nother generation. I have parents come with their kids who tell their kids they came when they were that age," said A.C.

The park is named after David Thomas Kennedy. He is a University of Miami grad and he was the city of Miami Mayor in 1973.

Kennedy recently passed away at the age of 80, but his park is a lasting symbol of his importance in South Florida.

Kennedy Park also has two dog parks. There's one for the little yappers and one for the bigger canines.
