State's High Court To Take Up Miami Lakes Mayor Dispute

TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/NSF) - The Florida Supreme Court has agreed to speed up a case about whether Michael Pizzi should be reinstated as the Mayor of Miami Lakes after being acquitted of federal corruption charges.

Justices issued an order granting Pizzi's motion to "expedite" consideration of the issue.

Pizzi was suspended last year by Gov. Rick Scott and is asking the Supreme Court to rule that he should be reinstated to office. The governor's office has declined to reinstate Pizzi, pointing to a special election in which a replacement was chosen.

Attorneys for Pizzi, who was cleared of the corruption charges by a federal jury August 14th, alleged a "serious breach" by Scott.
