911 Call Released For Man Killed While Biking To Miami

VERO BEACH (CBSMiami) – The 911 call for the man who was fatally stabbed at a Vero Beach McDonalds has been released.

Kevin Adorno, 28, was killed while biking from Maryland to Miami to propose to his girlfriend who lives in South Florida.

911 operator: Hello 911?

Caller: I need an ambulance at the McDonalds on US1 right across the street from Burger King. Someone got stabbed in the heart. Immediately, please come right now.

911 operator: All right, we'll get right over there.

Caller: He's going into cardiac arrest. Please! Please get an ambulance here.

Adorno suffered serious stab wounds to his chest and arms in an unprovoked attack while talking to his girlfriend on a cellphone outside of the restaurant.  He stumbled back inside the McDonalds but was pronounced dead a short time later at Indian River Memorial Hospital.

Police arrested Rene Herrera Cruz, 59, who believed that Adorno was using his cellphone to tell other people to attack him. Cruz was charged with first-degree murder.

Cruz, who is believed to be homeless, has a record of various assault and drug charges, according to police.
