Officers Investigating Police-Involved Shooting In NW Miami-Dade

NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE (CBSMiami) - A man is in critical condition after an officer-involved shooting Friday.

Miami-Dade police say they responded to a home at Northwest 181st Terrace and 51st Place at around 3:30 p.m. after receiving a domestic violence call.

According to investigators, the suspect was armed and threatening family members. They say he barricaded himself inside the home, then a short time later came outside with a gun in his hand. Several officers opened fire.

"There was an encounter outside on street corner with the subject that had a weapon on him," said Juan Perez, Deputy Director of the Miami-Dade Police Department. "Multiple officers did shoot and the subject was hit with multiple rounds."

Witnesses say the man ignored warnings from officers to stop.

"Police are behind their cars and they're like get back, get back, I guess he had something in his hand," said witness Kendrick Ramirez. "He didn't stop he just kept going, I just heard a bunch of bullets and he just fell."

The man was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center where he is undergoing surgery.

An preliminary investigation found the man did not fire his weapon, and that four officers fired their guns.
