MIAMI (CBSMiami) — CBS4 has hired veteran meteorologist John Gerard to anchor the station’s weekend weathercasts.
He will join the station on June 15 and will anchor the 6 and 11 pm newscasts, and serve as the primary fill-in weather anchor for Chief Meteorologist Craig Setzer.
Gerard, a certified broadcast meteorologist, previously worked at WPLG and WTVJ in South Florida, in addition to television stations in Cincinnati and Cleveland, Ohio; Evansville, Indiana; Knoxville, Tennessee, and San Antonio, Texas. In addition, his radio weather forecasts have been heard on over 200 stations across the U.S., Canada and the Caribbean.
He began his career as a meteorological technician prior to working in broadcasting and he also taught meteorology at The University of Miami.
When he’s not forecasting, he spends his time making public appearances at schools and civic organizations, working as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, coaching youth soccer and organizing a weekend youth sports for kids ages 5-15.
“With his wealth of experience in the South Florida market and his expertise in general, John Gerard makes an excellent addition to our weather team,” said CBS4 News Director Liz Roldan. “Thanks to the skill and knowledge of Chief Meteorologist Craig Setzer, Meteorologist Lissette Gonzalez and now, John Gerard, we’re further affirming our commitment to providing our viewers with the best weather coverage in South Florida.”
