MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) — It was the U.S. Coast Guard to the rescue after a cruise ship passenger became seriously ill off the coast of Pompano Beach.
Around 3 a.m. Wednesday, a medical crew aboard the Carnival Sensation notified the Coast Guard that they had a 44-year old man experiencing respiratory issues. The ship’s medical crew discussed the man’s condition with the Coast Guard’s on-duty flight surgeon and determined a medevac was necessary.
The man and a nurse were airllifted off the ship by an aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Miami brought to Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale where he was listed as stable.
