Free Parasite Screenings Offered After Abandoned, Sick Puppy Dies

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A local animal hospital is offering free parasite checks and treatment for pets, in addition to free vaccinations, after a woman was caught on camera leaving a very sick puppy in front of its door.

That puppy did not survive.  When it was discovered, the four-week-old dachshund was very weak, anemic and had a fatal case of intestinal parasites.

The woman left the ill puppy dachshund in front of the Animal Welfare Society of South Florida at 2601 SW 27th Avenue in Miami and she still hasn't been identified.

The group said it is offering the checks because there was no reason the puppy had to suffer from the parasites.

"Our mission is to help your pet at the lowest cost possible, abandoning your animal shouldn't be an option. We're offering free parasite screenings after a very sad occurrence that happened this past week, please call to schedule your appointment," said Renee Bleemer, Animal Welfare President.

To make an appointment, which is required, call (305) 858-3501. The next date that the checks will be offered is April 6th.
