Miami Beach Forum Looks At How Complaints Improve Life

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - It's been said that 'the squeaky wheel gets the grease'.

This weekend on Miami Beach, designers, civic leaders and politicians at the Power of Design 2014 are embracing the power of complaints to forge solutions for urban problems at a conference on art and design.

Organizers say the weekend event isn't just a gripe fest. Innovators in urban planning from around the hemisphere will meet to discuss ways to improve city life.

Brazilian city planning leader Jaime Lerner, Chilean affordable housing advocate Alejandro Aravena and Arquitectonica founder Andres Duany will be among the speakers.

Other sessions will feature visual artists, journalists and the former federal security director for Miami International Airport.

The Power of Design 2014 event is presented by The Wolfsonian-Florida International University, together with WLRN and The Miami Herald Media Company. The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation is among its patrons.
