Man Accused Of Posing As UPS Driver In Robbery Arrested

FT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – A man who Broward Sheriff's investigators suspect posed as delivery driver during an armed robbery of a Pompano Beach woman last month is in custody.

Allen Perez, 28, was arrested at his Boca Raton home Monday night.

On February 27th, Perez reportedly knocked on the door of 65-year old Marie Jean Pierre's home on NW 1st Terrace near 16th Street. When she asked who it was, Perez allegedly told her he was from the U.S. Postal Service and he had a package for her that she needed to sign for.

When Pierre opened the door and grabbed the clipboard, Perez pulled out a handgun from his waistband, according to sheriff's investigators. Pierre quickly shoved him away and began to scream for help in the front yard.

One of her neighbors, 44-year old Claudia Kretzer, heard the screams and went outside to see what was happening. When Perez noticed Kretzer holding her phone and assumed that she had taken a picture of him or his car, according to the incident report. He reportedly Kretzer to the ground and stole her phone.

As he ran to a waiting car, he dropped two packages in Kretzer's yard. The first box was empty; the second contained eight zip ties and a roll of duct tape.

Broward Sheriff's investigators said they were able to link Perez to the robbery by evidence he left at the scene, as well as by witness accounts.

Perez is currently on probation in Palm Beach County for aggravated assault with intent to commit a felony committed in New York state.

Perez will be charged with robbery with a firearm and aggravated assault. Investigators believe that Perez may have committed other similar robberies in the area.
