DAYTONA BEACH (CBSMiami/AP) – A 97-year-old Daytona Beach woman died after she was hit by a Florida Highway Patrol trooper’s car in a Daytona Beach parking lot.

Maria McEwen died Thursday at Halifax Medical Center according to Sgt. Kim Montes.

McEwen was walking toward a store when she was hit by the patrol car driven by Trooper Gabriel Keyes on Wednesday. FHP officers said Keyes apparently didn’t see the woman.

Officials said McEwen suffered leg injuries during the crash. FHP said it is conducting an investigation of the incident.
