WESTON (CBSMiami) — Students at Cypress Bay High School in Weston were without power Friday forcing school officials to close school for the day.

A community power outage led to darkness inside of the high school according to Broward County Schools spokesperson Nadine Drew.

Students with cars in the 11th and 12th grades were allowed to leave and many other students were picked up by parents.

Any students that require bus transportation are at the school were allowed to stay at the school in a courtyard area and served a bag lunch.

The school follows the regular bus schedule for Broward County and buses will arrive for normal dismissal times at 3 p.m.

According to Florida Power and Light, there was an equipment issue nearby around 8:30 a.m. and the cause of the problem is under investigation.

Initially about 2,200 customers were impacted, but the school was the last location to remain impacted Friday afternoon.

All other locations had power restored within a couple of hours of the equipment failure.
