American Heritage Defeats Clay, 66-8
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Sony Michel and Isaiah McKenzie had three touchdowns apiece as Plantation American Heritage defeated Green Cove Springs Clay, 66-8, in the Florida Class 5A state football championship game.
Michel, a running back committed to Georgia, scored on touchdown runs of 5, 1 and 13 yards. He finished the game with 98 yards on 13 carries in about two and a half quarters of work.
McKenzie scored on a 3-yard run, 49-yard pass and 65-yard punt return.
American Heritage (13-1) scored on its first five possessions and took a 40-0 lead at halftime. In the second half the Patriots increased the lead to 59-0 in the first three minutes of the third quarter.
Clay (10-5) got a touchdown from quarterback Wes Weeks, who rushed for 74 yards on 14 carries.
American Heritage quarterback Torrance Gibson was 9-of-10 for 161 yards and two touchdowns and added 154 rushing yards and another touchdown. Tavares McFadden scored on an 86-yard kickoff return for the Patriots.
