Winston Leads Final Heisman Poll

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – After leading Florida State to the ACC Championship on Saturday, quarterback Jameis Winston looks like he will become the second redshirt freshman in a row to win the Heisman Memorial Trophy.

According to the final HeismanPundit.com poll, Winston collected seven out of a possible 10 first-place votes to win the straw poll. Winston has set freshman records for passing yards (3,820) and passing touchdowns (38) and fell just one point short of the all-time passer efficiency mark.

If Winston wins, he'll become the third Florida State Seminoles player to win the coveted trophy, joining quarterbacks Chris Weinke and Charlie Ward. Winston will have the highest pass efficiency of any quarterback in NCAA history if he wins the award.

Following Winston in the HeismanPundit.com poll were Jordan Lynch (QB – Northern Illinois University), Johnny Manziel (QB – Texas A&M University), and Tre Mason (RB – Auburn). Alabama QB A.J. McCarron finished fifth in the poll.

The finalists for the Heisman Trophy will be announced Monday at 6 p.m. and the trophy will be awarded on Saturday, December 14.
