BSO: Two Day Operation Nets 178 Arrests & Dozens Of Guns

BROWARD COUNTY (CBSMiami) --The Broward Sheriff's Office called it Operation Full Blitz --a two day operation targeting criminals ahead of the Thanksgiving.

CBS4 News rode along with the Broward Sheriff's Office as they targeted suspected drug dealers and other criminals at work in the county. BSO says they also targeted child pornographers and prostitutes while serving arrest warrants throughout the county.

In all, BSO says 178 people were arrested on felony and misdemeanor charges, seized 26 guns and more than $1 million dollars. Numerous municipal, state and federal law enforcement agencies also took part in the operation.

In one case, BSO says they found $200 dollars worth of powdered cocaine in a man's car after undercover deputies set up a deal with him. The man was carted off to jail. BSO says they also seized 35 marijuana plants at a home in Southwest Ranches. BSO says the people living in the home were arrested.

BSO Major Jim Polan says the goal of the operation was simple.

"Our purpose is try to improve the quality of life for all of our residents of Broward County," Polan said.

The Broward Sheriff's Office said Operation Full Blitz aimed to make things a little safer before Thanksgiving and the kick-off of the busy holiday shopping season. BSO says the operation took aim at lots of different crimes.

"Everything that would affect the regular guy, living at home with their families, we put together an operation to target those criminals as the holiday season rolls upon us," Polan said.
