Truck Slams Into West Park Motel

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A stretch of State Road 7 in West Park was closed to traffic for several hours Monday morning after a two vehicle accident sent a pick-up truck careening into the wall of a motel.

The accident, involving an SUV and a Ford F-350 truck, happened in front of the Trio Motel on 25th Street.

Todd White, who owns a business across the street, had surveillance video from his business that showed the driver of the pickup was heading eastbound on SW 25th street and appeared to run a stop sign before slamming into the SUV heading south on State Road 7.

"I was woken up by police who told me that a driver that knocked over a fence next door to my house and then I find out it was the same driver whose car went into a building across the street," White said.

A guest at the motel told CBS4's Marybel Rodriguez that they were sleeping when a person from maintenance began pounding on his door saying he had to get out. He said after the truck had crashed into the wall in the area of the motel's office, it had caught fire.

Everyone was evacuated from the motel.

The driver of the F-350 and the SUV were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators believe there was a second person in the pickup truck, but are still looking into that and trying to determine the exact cause of the crash.
