Police Identify Man Who Crashed Through Hollywood Resort's Glass Ceiling

FT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – Police have released the name of the man who crashed through a glass ceiling into the lobby of a popular Hollywood resort early Sunday morning.

Forty six year old Dr. Piotr Kulesza, who was visiting from Chicago, fell from a 23rd floor balcony of the Westin Diplomat Resort & Spa around 12:40 a.m., according to Hollywood police.  Kulesza died on the scene.

A Northwestern University faculty guide lists Kulesza as a professor of pathology.

"Peter was a remarkable colleague, who will be remembered for his infectious enthusiasm and energy. He was dedicated to our academic mission, and this was evident in his interactions with colleagues, residents, fellows, and medical students. He was an ambitious researcher, who was a principle investigator on R01 grants as well as clinical trials. Peter was also a talented and conscientious cytopathologist," said Dr. William Muller, chair of university's pathology department. "Our hearts and prayers go out to Peter's family; to all his colleagues in the Department of Pathology; and the staff of the NMH Cytopathology laboratory and the Pathology Core Facility, who had the pleasure of working with him. He will be sorely missed."

The police department's initial investigation did not reveal any suspected foul play. Detectives are actively investigating this case as to whether it was an accident or intentional.

Northwestern University said he was in town for an oncology conference.
