MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The man acquitted in the shooting death of unarmed Miami Gardens teen Trayvon Martin is in trouble with the law again.
George Zimmerman was arrested at approximately 1 p.m. Monday, according to the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office, whose deputies responded to a disturbance call in Apopka in Central Florida.
Zimmerman allegedly pointed a shotgun at his girlfriend, Samantha Scheibe, according to the Seminole County Sheriff’s Department.
The Seminole County Sheriff said Zimmerman has been charged with aggravated assault, battery, and criminal mischief. Zimmerman is being held without bond until his first appearance before a judge on Tuesday.
In a 911 call released Monday, Scheibe told an emergency dispatcher Zimmerman broke things in her home.
“You just broke my glass table,” Scheibe told Zimmerman while she was on the line with the 911 operator. “You just broke my sunglasses. You put a gun in my freaking face and told me to get the (expletive) out.”
Zimmerman had been living with the girlfriend for several months, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
Zimmerman also called 911 Monday.
“She was throwing my stuff out. Inside the bags was one of my firearms. I never pulled a firearm. I never displayed it,” Zimmerman told the dispatcher.
Zimmerman went on to tell the operator that Scheibe was pregnant with his child and that she had “gone crazy.”
When asked, police said Scheibe told them she was not pregnant.
Scheibe left the home and Zimmerman barricaded himself inside, using furniture to block the door, according to Seminole County Chief Deputy Dennis Lemma.
Zimmerman offered no resistance when deputies arrested him, Lema said.
“I just want everyone to know the truth,” Zimmerman said in the 911 call.
He initially did not want to speak to police on the scene.
“I don’t want to go outside,” he told the dispatcher. “Ya’ll are just going to do the same thing you did before.”
Scheibe hinted she knew the case would go public quickly.
“He knows how to do this,” she said. “He knows how to play this game.”
The arrest took place a few miles from Sanford, where Zimmerman shot and killed Trayvon Martin in February of 2012. He was later acquitted of second-degree murder in July 2013.
Just last week, Lake Mary police said no charges would be filed against Zimmerman or his estranged wife after a domestic dispute in September because there wasn’t enough evidence.
Zimmerman also made headline when he was pulled over this summer. He was stopped for speeding in Texas, where he told the officer he had a gun in his car.
He was also given a written warning in Brevard County for having an obscured license plate and dark tinted windows.
Zimmerman is due in court Tuesday afternoon.
All domestic violence suspects are held without bail in Seminole County until they make an initial appearance before a judge.
If granted bond, the Sheriff’s Office has asked that Zimmerman be placed on electronic monitoring.
