FAU Student Fabricated Story About Robbery

BOCA RATON (CBSMiami) - The Florida Atlantic University student that claimed to have been beat up and forced to withdraw money, came clean to FAU Police Friday night about what really happened.

Vincent Philipps, 25, initially told campus police on the evening of October 23 that five black men had approached him and forced him to drive off campus to withdraw money from a bank. He also told authorities that the men beat him up then left him in Coconut Creek.

Philipps met with campus police Friday and confessed to having fabricated the events to cover the fact that he had been beat in Broward County while paying off a drug debt, according to campus police.

The FAU Police Department will work with the State Attorney's Office regarding appropriate charges against Philipps who is also subject  to FAU's Student Code of Conduct disciplinary process.
