Pembroke Pines Police Investigating Suspicious Death

PEMBROKE PINES (CBSMiami) – Police are investigating a body which turned up in a lake in a Pembroke Pines community Friday.

Pembroke Pines police and the Medical Examiner's Office removed the body Friday, unknown if it's a male or female, from a lake in the Silverlakes Community.

Police said that a neighbor noticed the body and called 9-1-1. Authorities believe the body has been there for at least a few days.

CBS4's Carey Codd was told that the water the body is in is enclosed, meaning it doesn't flow into any other lakes so the body could not have floated from somewhere else.

Residents of the community say this is highly unusual in the neighborhood and are wondering who the person is and how they got there.

"There's no sidewalk or anything there so I don't get how it would get there. It would have to be dumped or something," said Jason Berkowitz who lives nearby.

Authorities were looking through missing persons cases but as of Friday afternoon hadn't come up with anything. Also, according to authorities, unless the body has some kind of ID on it, it could take a while to identify.
