Couple Charged With Child Abuse After 2-Year-Old Falls Out Window

HIALEAH (CBSMiami) - A two-year-old boy is in critical condition Saturday after falling from a second-story window from a motel room in Hialeah. After further investigation, the parents have been charged with child neglect after police said they found drugs and alcohol in the room.

Hialeah Police and Rescue units responded around 11:44 p.m. at El Paraiso Motel where the two-year-old boy fell from the window to the ground below.

The child, who according to authorities was critically injured, was transported by Hialeah Fire Rescue to Jackson Memorial Hospital.

Hialeah detectives responded and began conducting an investigation.

During investigations, it was determined that Luis Enrique Rodriguez, 26, and Jacqueline Sanchez, 28, had been staying at the motel room with their two children, one of which fell from the window, for the past two days. Inside the room was evidence of suspected narcotics and alcohol.

The couple's other child is a five-month-old baby, according to the Hialeah Police Department.

Each parent has been charged with one-count of Child Abuse/Without Great Bodily Harm, which in Florida is a third-degree felony. The charges are due to the drugs that were present in the proximity of children.

The investigation regarding the two-year-old's fall is open and on-going as the child's condition continues to be monitored by authorities.

The five-month old baby boy is currently in the custody of the Department of Children and Families.
