Humberto Continues To Strengthen

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Tropical storm warnings were discontinued for the Cape Verde Islands as Tropical Storm Humberto moved away from the area Monday.

At 11 p.m., the center of the storm was about 120 miles west southwest of the southermost Cape Verde Islands.

Humberto's maximum sustained winds were 60 mph as it moved to the west northwest at 10 mph.

The National Hurricane Center forecasts that Humberto will take a turn to the west-northwest and slow a bit by Tuesday.

The tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 80 miles from the center of Humberto.

On the forecast track, the center of Humberto will remain south and west of the Cape Verde Islands.

The storm is expected to strengthen over the next 48 hours and could be the first hurricane of this year's season by Tuesday.
