FL Attorney General Says Execution Delay Was Wrong
TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/AP) -- Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi is speaking out about the delay of an execution date of a former escort service owner saying it was wrong to do so because of a campaign fundraiser.
Gov. Rick Scott delayed the execution of convicted killer Marshall Lee Gore from Sept. 10 until Oct. 1 at Bondi's request.
Bondi said in a statement late Monday that Gore's execution had been delayed twice and her office should have not requested another delay.
Scott said Monday that he did not know why Bondi asked for the delay. He says it was routine to accommodate requests from other officials.
Gore was convicted in the 1988 slaying of Robyn Novick, a 30-year-old exotic dancer. In addition to Novick, Gore also was sentenced to death for the 1988 slaying of Susan Roark.
