Zimmerman’s Atty Wants State To Pick Up The Tab

ORLANDO (CBSMiami/AP) – The legal team that won an acquittal for George Zimmerman in the shooting death of 17-year old Trayvon Martin plans to ask the state to pick up his legal tab.

Mark O’Mara told the Orlando Sentinel Monday evening that because Zimmerman was acquitted, state law requires Florida to pay all his legal costs. He said he will ask the state cover $200,000 to $300,000 of his legal expenses.  Some of the costs that could be reimbursed include expert witnesses, depositions and an animated video depicting Zimmerman’s account of what happened during his fight with Martin last year.

O’Mara said he was going to make a motion asking Circuit Judge Debra S. Nelson to authorize the payments.

The 29-year-old Zimmerman was acquitted last month of all charges including second-degree murder in the death of Martin in Sanford. His murder trial lasted five weeks.
