Man Shot By SWAT Team During Boynton Beach Standoff
BOYNTON BEACH (AP) - A Boynton Beach man remains in critical condition after he was shot by a Palm Beach Sheriff's SWAT team member during a lengthy standoff.
Sheriff's deputies to the man's home after receiving a call that a weapon had been fired inside the home and that he was suicidal. Six nearby homes were evacuated as deputies and SWAT members surrounded the man's residence.
Family members warned deputies the man was a skilled marksman who owned numerous weapons.
Deputies and SWAT team members negotiated with the unidentified man for several hours. He came outside the house several times and, at one point, authorities said he shot a vehicle parked in his driveway, but then retreated.
When he emerged for the final time, authorities said he pointed his weapon at a SWAT member and the officer returned fire.
