Woman Gives Birth In Jackson South Lobby

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Security cameras at Jackson South Community Hospital caught something on video Wednesday, but it wasn't a criminal.

A pregnant mother named Susana Privada arrived at Jackson South just before 7 a.m. Wednesday saying she was in labor.

In the video, Privada can be seen talking with people at the desk in the lobby before laying down on the ground.

As Privada laid on the ground, the worker at the desk can be seen calling for help, but it wasn't until a hospital employee in a white coat stopped to help did medical help get there.

Susana's husband Carlos Saravia was helping his wife throughout the impromptu birth.

Privada continued to lay on the ground in labor as other employees walked past. Another employee finally stopped to help the pregnant woman in labor.

Susana said she knew she couldn't make it to the delivery room.

"I could feel the baby coming," she said. "All I could do was drop to the lobby floor."

Within a few minutes, Dayana Privada was born in the lobby of Jackson South.

In a statement, Jackson Health CEO Carlos Migoya said, "We can't guarantee that every Jackson patient will have such a speedy delivery, but we can guarantee the best care for whatever happens with your birth."
