'Amigos For Kids' Holds Annual Back-To-School Drive

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The kickoff for back to school events has started and are in full swing for the upcoming school year.

'Amigos For Kids' held its annual Back-To-School drive and family fair on Sunday where students received school goodies and there was fun for the whole family.

More than 500 families gathered at Jose Marti Park where they were able to participate in special activities and seminars.

The fair provided kids with backpacks full of school supplies and other materials. Children also received free eye and allergy exams, healthy nutritional "Five-A-Day" meal plans, fingerprint ID cards and books.

"It's our back to school fair and we are absolutely delighted that we were able to start this early this year with the amazing support of so many sponsors," said President & CEO of Amigos For Kids, Rosa Maria Plasencia. "What we're trying to do is make sure parents know the kids are ok for the first day of school with their supplies."

Parents and kids were able to interact with celebrity chef Ingrid Hoffmann and receive information from radio host and nutritional expert Dra. Maribel Santa Cruz.

Community leaders such as the City of Miami Mayor Tomás Regalado and Commissioner Frank Carollo also attended the fair to show support.
