Scuba Diver Dies Off Plantation Key

MIAMI (CBSMiami) —  A Pennsylvania man died while scuba diving offshore of Plantation Key, Thursday.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, the man is 52-years-old and was in a private vessel with two other men.

The friends said the victim and one of the other men were diving in the area of Davis Reef when the victim signaled he wanted to surface.

After they surfaced, the friend said he noticed the man had gone back under the surface and he went back after him.

Investigators say the man was brought back to the surface unresponsive.

Paramedics took the victim to Mariner's Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

It is not known whether the men were participating in the two-day sport lobster season.
