MIAMI (CBSMiami) — An elderly man was robbed on his way home from a nearby bank by a person police said was impersonating an officer.

The Miami Police Department's Robbery Unit said the robbery took place Thursday just after 2:00 p.m. in front of 1835 Southwest 10th Street.

Investigators said the police impersonator was armed and displayed a badge while demanding the elderly man's belongings.

The police impersonator is described as a white-Hispanic male, 25 to 30-years-old, medium built, approximately 5 feet 11 inches tall and wearing a long white t-shirt with camouflage shorts.

Detectives said the man got away with money, a wallet and a cell phone.

He fled in what is described as a light-colored Ford Explorer or For Expedition.
