S. Fla. Fuel Thief Captured, 1 On The Run

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Miami-Dade police have made one arrest and are still searching for another suspect in a large fuel theft at a South Florida gas station.

According to police, Dayan Navarro, 19, and Dan Gonzalez, 22, drove a Teal colored Dodge Caravan into a Hess gas station on the morning of June 5th at 7550 NW 186th Street. The van was altered in such a way to siphon fuel.

They parked the van over the refueling port at the gas station and used hoses and an electric pump to siphon about 400 gallons of gas into three large plastic tanks through an opening in the floor of the van.

Gonzalez then walked into the station's convenience store where an employee recognized him from images captured on video surveillance from previous fuel thefts.

When officers arrived, Navarro was taken into custody but Gonzalez ran away and remains at large.
