Shooter Of Pompano Beach Teen Charged

POMPANO BEACH (CBSMiami) – A 15-year-old boy has been charged with one count of aggravated battery with a firearm for allegedly shooting a 15-year-old girl he was walking with Monday.

The teenage girl continues to recover at the Broward Health Medical Center after being shot in the chest.

As investigators continue to piece together what happened, parents of other students at the victim's school were stunned.

"That's crazy. That's why I keep minue up under me, it's not that I'm trying to shelter here, but that's crazy," said parent Antoya Blunt. "That is so sad. I didn't know anything about it. That's crazy."

"Well, I'm shocked. I'm in shock; it's just crazy," said parent Wayne Beck.

The 15-year-old victim was shot in the chest while walking down the 1800 block of NW 14th Circle in Pompano Beach. One of the boys that were walking with the girl was allegedly the trigger man in the shooting.

Broward Sheriff's Office investigators said that sorting out the details of what happened has proven tough early in the investigation.

"Detectives are dealing with some different stories," said BSO Spokesperson Dani Moschella. "Different people are saying different things about what happened."

It is reported that after the victim was shot, she walked two blocks to a family member's house before someone called 911.

Investigators said the girl remained conscious throughout. Everyone on scene said she was fortunate to survive. But, for some, the shooting is a stark reminder of the violence that can happen anytime, anywhere.

"I mean I'm a father and definitely I can't imagine. I can't imagine. I cannot imagine what the parents are going through right now," said parent Keith Ireland. "That's sad. I'm praying for her."
