Visit Florida Reports Record Quarter For Travel

TALLAHASEE (CBSMiami/NSF) -- Florida's tourism-marketing arm is reporting the highest-ever single quarter for visitors to the Sunshine State.

Preliminary estimates from Visit Florida have 26 million visitors trekking to Florida during the first three months of 2013, a 4.7 percent increase from the same period a year earlier when the old record was set.

Of the first quarter visitors, 1.5 million were from Canada, up 3.9 percent from the same period in 2012, and 2.7 million were from overseas, an 11.3 percent increase.

Visit Florida also revised its 2012 numbers to 91.4 million visitors, of which 77.6 million were domestic visitors.

In February, Visit Florida listed 89.3 visitors in 2012, which was a 2 million increase from 2011.
