MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A South Florida woman was killed and a 13-year-old girl was hurt Saturday morning in a horrible crash on the Turnpike in West Miami-Dade and FHP officials say the accident was caused by road debris.

The accident took place around 8:15 a.m. in the southbound lanes of the Turnpike just north of SW 8th Street.

FHP officials said 46-year-old Amalia Ramirez-Marquez, of Doral, was unable to avoid road debris in her lane. She collided with it, lost control, rotated around before driving into the grassy shoulder where she collided with a tree.

The driver was killed on the scene and the passenger, 13-year-old Barbara Ramirez, was transported to Miami Children’s Hospital.

Her condition is not known but she is expected to be okay.
