Sports Grill Burglars Crawl On Floor Like Rats During Heist

SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE (CBSMiami) – Miami-Dade police are searching for some sneaky crooks who stole big cash from a popular sports bar.

The thieves were caught on surveillance video crawling around like rats on the floor as they made their way to raid the office safe at the Sports Grill, located on SW 114th Avenue and 40th Street.

The break-in took place around 3:00 a.m. Sunday Feb. 16th after the sports bar had closed for the night. It's believed the crooks cased their target before closing in a white van which was seen in the parking lot around 1:00 a.m.

Once everyone left the building, and the shopping center security guard went back to his office, two men from the white van used crowbars to break into a rear security door of the restaurant.

Surveillance cameras inside captured the burglars as they crawled along the floor and headed straight toward the manager's office where there was a floor safe.

"They knew exactly where it was," said Sports Grill manager Marcus Baez. "They went straight to it."

It's not known how they got inside the safe. There are two theories. Either someone mistakenly left it open or the burglars knew the code. Either way, they made off with about $15,000.

If you know something about this burglary call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous, and you may be eligible for a reward.
