Sheriff's Office Looking For Beret Wearing Bandit

FT. LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – A man the Broward Sheriff's Office has dubbed the "Kangol Robber" because of his hat is now believed to be responsible for four robberies in the county.

Sheriff's investigators believe he first struck when he robbed a Pet Supermarket in Pompano Beach on November 14th 2012.

A month later, on December 13th, he calmly walked into a FedEx Office store, at 1650 N. Federal Highway in Pompano Beach, and held employees at gunpoint. Witnesses said he walked around the store while talking on a cell phone. He then picked up a notepad and approached the cashier to pay.

As soon as the register opened, he took out a silver handgun and pointed it at the employees as he ordered them to get on the floor. He emptied the cash drawer and ordered a second employee to open the safe. He took that employee's money and his driver's license and fled.

He's also wanted by the Margate Police Department for two robberies on Jan. 2 at City Trends and Advanced Auto Parts.

He's described as being in his mid- to late 20s, about 5'8" and 160 lbs.

In the surveillance video from the FedEx robbery, he was wearing a khaki, long-sleeve shirt, brown pants, brown shoes and a brown Kangol beret.

Anyone with information is asked to contact BSO Robbery Detective Roger Peterson at (954) 321-4270 or Broward Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS (8477).
